Code Amber The Webs Amber Alert System America's Missing: Broadcast Emergency Response What is an Amber Alert? Each program establishes its own AMBER Plan criteria; however, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children suggests three criteria that should be met before an Alert is activated. *law enforcement confirms a child has been abducted *law enforcement believes the circumstances surrounding the abduction indicate that the child is in danger of serious bodily harm or death *there is enough descriptive information about the child, abductor, and/or suspect's vehicle to believe an immediate broadcast alert will help If these criteria are met, alert information must be put together for public distribution. This information can include descriptions and pictures of the missing child, the suspected abductor, a suspected vehicle, and any other information available and valuable to identifying the child and suspect. |

The Nation's Resource Center for Child Protection NCMEC provides services nationwide for families and professionals in the prevention of abducted, endangered, and sexually exploited children. NCMEC also assists law enforcement in the prosecution of the criminals who perpetrate these terrible crimes. In 1989 NCMEC had a staff of 40. Today NCMEC is a more than 200-person, high-tech organization with global reach and, most importantly, success. Most NCMEC work is conducted, developed, analyzed, and completed on-site at its headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia, using state-of-the-art technology; highly trained professionals; and committed staff, interns, and volunteers. |

The HATE-CRIME NETWORK, formerly HCDN, was created by a team of experienced hate crime victim advocates who know the importance of hate crime laws, recovery services, and improved police response. And. also know that for the thousands of people affected by hate crimes each year, none of that matters if they can't tell anyone what happened. Survivors of bias incidents often say that they fear reporting to the police or that they simply don't know where to turn for help. So, they simply suffer in silence -- feeling disconnected, helpless, and afraid. Fortunately, there's the international HATE-CRIME NETWORK. It gives hate survivors a chance to tell someone what happened to them, regardless of where they live. Among other things, it gives virtually anyone with e-mail or Web access a chance to send personal messages to the victims, offering them compassion, encouragement, and hope. |
