We are touched and amazed at the
outpouring of support and kindness that has come our way since we stepped
forward with our family's story a few months ago. Thousands of you have taken
the time to send us messages of support and your personal stories, and over
300,000 e-mail letters have been sent to Florida officials asking that they end
the state ban on adoption by lesbian and gay families.
Since you last
heard from us, we've been going about our lives and preparing for the next step
of our lawsuit, which is going to be argued before the federal appeals court
sometime in the next few months. Florida, as you have probably heard, has a new
head of the Department of Children and Families, and this man needs to know how
you all feel about the state's adoption law and its efforts to take Bert away.
We hope you'll take a few minutes to go to this site's "Take Action"
page and do that.
Most importantly, we'd
like to let you know how our family is doing. Fortunately, Bert is still at home
with his brothers and sister. We had a fun summer — all the kids were on the
swim team — and we can't believe Bert is now starting the 6th grade.
We
can't begin to tell you how grateful and moved we are by the way you've all come
forward to help our family. Thank you so much. We'll keep you posted on what
happens.
