Times First Gay Announcement
The New York Times ran its first announcement of same-sex couples commitment
union ceremony. Daniel Gross and Steven Goldstein were the first gay couple to have
civil union announcement posted in NY Times.

More Wedding Pages Welcoming Gay Couples Announcements
Most American newspapers don't run same-sex "wedding" announcements. Only around
100 papers out of 1,500 nationwide publish reports of gay and lesbian unions, wedding and
commitment announcement ceremonies. But, the NY Times may motivate many of the smaller
newspapers to follow suit and include same-sex announcements.
 
North Carolina Newspaper Stands by Announcement of Gay Civil Union
The publisher of The Fayetteville Observer said, "We try to promote tolerance and refusing to
run the item would have been "hypocritical or even discriminatory."
 
Sweeping Gay Marriage Lawsuit in New Jersey Aims for U.S. History
Historic case aiming to legalize same-sex marriage in New Jersey and advance rights of
couples beyond domestic partnership benefits or Civil Union law, seven lesbian and gay
couples filed a lawsuit against State of New Jersey in Superior Court in "Jersey City".
 
Lambda Legal, NJ Couples Launch Historic Lawsuit for Marriage Equality
Lambda Legal joined seven lesbian and gay N.J. couples in filing an historic lawsuit claiming
their "right to marry". Making N.J. the Gay Marriage Battleground. As Catholic Conference and
Family Policy Council push legislation to prohibit "Same-Sex Unions".

Massachusetts: Gay Marriage Ban is Dead
The Legislature adjourned a constitutional convention without considering an amendment to
keep same-sex couples from marrying or enjoying benefits of marriage. Sen. Tom Birmingham
said measure to ban gay marriage is hateful and mean-spirited.
 
Georgia Sureme Court: Civil Unions Not Marriage
Georgia's Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision upheld a Georgia Court of Appeals'
ruling that a Vermont civil union between same-sex couples is not equivalent to marriage.
 
Democrats Back New York Law on Gay Unions
Two Democrats running for governor support making New York the second state in the
nation to give same-sex partners the rights and benefits of married couples.
