US Defends Anti-Gay Rights Stance on UN's Anti-Discrimination Resolution
April 26: The United States defended its decision not to support a resolution at the UN Human Rights Commission would that have condemned discrimination against homosexuals. The resolution, which
was actively opposed by some Arab nations and suffered from the US refusal to back it was put off until
next year. But the State Department said the United States would not have supported the resolution if it
had come to a vote because it did not believe the commission was the correct forum for the matter to be discussed.
 
UN Commission On Human Rights Fails To Act On Gay Rights Proposal
April 26: After three days of heated debate, United Nations Commission on Human Rights, meeting in Geneva, failed to vote on expanding the world body's definition of discrimination to include based on
sexual orientation. The proposal put forward by Brazil and supported by Canada, South Africa and most
of the European Union. The resolution was the first of its kind in United Nations history.
 
Queer Muslims Challenge Organization of Islamic Conference's Ill-Informed Campaign
April 25: In a letter to Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN, several queer Muslim groups voice their
support for the resolution promoting human rights for people of every sexual orientation, and challenge

Muslim Alliance Derails UN's Gay Rights Resolution
April 25: A United Nations vote on homosexual human rights was derailed at the last minute, by
an alliance of disapproving Muslim countries. The UN due to vote on the measure, the first time
in its almost 60-year history, but five Muslim countries delayed the vote until today and introduced amendments designed to kill it off.
 
Global 'Gay' Rights Measure Before U.N.
April 25: Amid intense debate on gay rights in state and local governments throughout the United States,
the U.N. Commission on Human Rights is preparing to vote on a resolution calling on all countries "to promote and protect human rights of all persons regardless of their sexual orientation." A vote on the measure, sponsored by Brazil, before the 52-member commission's, is expected to take place April 25.

Court Says law Discriminates Against Same-Sex-Partners
March 24: The Constitutional Court has ruled that part of the law regarding the status of children is discriminatory and unconstitutional. The judgment deals with the status of children conceived by artificial insemination to same sex permanent life partners. Ruling that twins born to a lesbian couple by means of artificial insemination were legitimate, a term traditionally used for children born in wedlock.
