ELKHART -- "Savage Nation," a talk radio program with Michael Savage as commentator, will no longer be heard on radio station WTRC.
The cancellation is the result of a heated on-air exchange last weekend during which Savage hurled a number of insulting comments at a caller, according to Julie Lockard, general manager of WTRC. "I refuse to air a mean-spirited talk show host who refuses to be accountable for his own actions," she said.
The cancellation has nothing to do with ideology and everything to do with civility, said Gary Seiber, the director of news and operations at the radio station. "Conservatism should not be equated with boorishness and offensive behavior," he said. "This latest incident was indicative of a pattern that simply could not be tolerated."
Savage apologized Wednesday for the incident. He said he thought the caller had been cut off and their exchange was not being carried live on the air.
