Did the Issue of 'Marriage Equality' Win the Election
For the Republicans?
1. Every civil rights movement has been blamed for the backlash of
the radical right. But the movements have kept up the fight, and they have
won. So, on total rights for the LGBT community, it is no longer a matter of if,
but a matter of when. I expected the degree of their resistance to match
the degree of our insistence
2. The next four years will be hell for Bush. After Nixon was
reelected, the resistance to his policies escalated enormously. This will
happen now. From the anti-war movement, to the pro-stem cell movement, to
the pro choice movement, to the pro environmental movement, to the LGBT
movement, people will be in the streets. Today is not a day to agonize, it is a
day to mobilize.
3. If 'moral issues' to the radical right means that they can
mortgage the future of their children, destroy the environment, stop medical
research that will cure disease, kill soldiers due to ineffective, inefficient
equipment, if all of this is less important
then lesbians and gays being able to marry, then shame on them.
