The American Association of Marriage & Family Therapy (AAMFT) held
its national conference in Atlanta, AAMFT is the leading
organization of
its type in the United States. The government goes to the AAMFT for help
making the laws concerning Marriage and Family Therapy, and this is also the
organization that licenses Marriage and Family Therapistsin the US.
AAMFT
unanimously made these seven declarations:
1. Homosexuality is not
a pathology or disease.
2. There is much research to support the
fact that same-sex couple relationships are healthy, do last and have
permanency.
3. The AAMFT supports same-sex marriages to be decided
by each individual state.
4. The AAMFT will not take any position
with the United States government on enforcing any kind of a ban o! r action
against same-sex marriages.
5. The AAMFT will set an immediate
press release to the public as well as the government on the actions taken by
the board here in Atlanta, GA.
6. The AAMFT will not tolerate any
discrimination of heterosexism inflicted upon the
GLBT community.
7. Any therapist member who is known to
discriminate a GLBT individual on any of this has the potential to lose their
license and membership in the organization.
[Now that the AAMFT has taken
a brave position against an organized sea of religiously-inspired hatred, of
course a lot of negativity is instantly unleashed against the AAMFT. What
we need now is your support. Please write to the following address and show
your support, because you know that the opposition will go out of its way to do
as much harm as possible.]
