ACLU Action Update:
Urge Florida Officials to Support Overturning the Gay Adoption Ban
August 28, 2002

In March, the ACLU Lesbian and Gay Rights Project launched a website to fight Florida's Gay Adoption Ban.  Florida's law is by far the toughest ban on gay adoption in the country as it prohibits all gay people from adopting children.

www.LetHimStay.com details the story of Steve Lofton, Roger Croteau and their five kids. Florida caseworkers have begun the process of finding another adoptive family for Bert, their 10-year-old, who has never known another family.

Since the initial website launch, Governor Jeb Bush has announced that his nominee to head the Florida Department of Children and Families, the agency that handles adoption, is someone who in the past has said that he is opposed to gay parenting of any kind.  Urge both the Governor and his choice to head the Department to change their position and publicly support repealing the ban.

Take action!  You can learn more about this ongoing battle and send a free email to Governor Bush and Acting Secretary Reiger at:
