Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

I am writing to urge you to take quick and decisive action to repudiate the discriminatory and hurtful statements made by Senator Rick Santorum against members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community in an interview with the Associated Press.

In his statements, Senator Santorum compared homosexuality with polygamy, incest and adultery. Hate-filled remarks like these do not display the compassionate conservatism that is espoused by President Bush. Discriminatory remarks like these fuel prejudice that can lead to violence and other harm against gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people.

Many American families have members who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender and their families should be treated with dignity and respect.

Senator Santorum's remarks are neither compassionate, nor truly conservative. They are simply un-American.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

[Insert Your Name]

What's at Stake

Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum made discriminatory and hurtful statements in an interview with the Associated Press.  In the article, Santorum claims that homosexuality, feminisim and liberalism undermine the family.

Here is a quote from Senator Santorum from the article:

"If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual (gay) sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything," the Pennsylvania lawmaker said in a recent interview, fuming over a landmark gay rights case before the high court that pits a Texas sodomy law against equality and privacy rights."

"All of those things are antithetical to a healthy, stable, traditional family," Santorum said. "And that's sort of where we are in today's world, unfortunately. It all comes from, I would argue, this right to privacy that doesn't exist, in my opinion, in the United States Constitution."
