Defeat the Judicial Nominations of Owen and Sutton

Currently, Senate Democrats are successfully blocking the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals with a filibuster. There are two other nominees in the final stages of consideration that should also be blocked, via filibuster if necessary: Judge Priscilla Owen for the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit and Jeffrey Sutton for the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit.

Take action!

The Judiciary Committee rejected Priscilla Owen last year based on a record that features attacks to reproductive freedom, workers’ rights and consumers’ rights. Jeffrey Sutton has been criticized for his extensive efforts as a lawyer to severely limit federal protections against discrimination and injury based on disability, race, age, sex and religion.

Sutton is scheduled for a vote this coming Tuesday, April 29, so time is of the essence. Please
take action today and let your friends and family know about this important campaign.

Censure Representative Cubin for Racist Remarks

During a recent debate on the House floor, Republican Representative Barbara Cubin of Wyoming made a statement suggesting that all black people are on drugs or in drug treatment and, while the statement was challenged on the floor, a majority of representatives couldn’t find it within themselves to take the high road regardless of partisan politics and have the statement removed from the record. The House voted against striking her comments 227 to 195. Not one Republican voted to remove her comments from the record.

Urge your representative to introduce a measure to publicly censure Representative Cubin for her racist remarks.
