Indict Saddam Hussein for War Crimes
Those who oppose war have an obligation to propose alternative paths to that of the Bush Administration. So far, the call for inspections has been an effective strategy, and the inspections should be strengthened and continued.
There is an additional powerful step that should be taken now: the indictment of Saddam Hussein.
Most agree that Saddam Hussein is a cruel dictator who has committed horrific human rights violations against his own people and those of neighboring countries. International law provides a remedy for just this behavior, and it is not a preemptive invasion. Instead, the U.N. Security Council should establish a tribunal for crimes against humanity by the leaders of Iraq, and move immediately to indict Saddam and selected others of his Ba’ath Party. This should allow us to focus on the crimes of the leadership while protecting the lives of the innocent people of Iraq.
Urge President Bush to call upon the United Nations to establish a war-crimes tribunal to indict Saddam Hussein.

Time is running out to stop this war. We need to raise as
much money as we can between now and Friday, March 14 to place the message
“Support our Troops. Bring them home NOW” on billboards in major cities,
including Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and even near Bush’s home in
Crawford, Texas.
The growing antiwar movement has succeeded beyond anyone’s
hopes and the Bush Administration’s fears — yet Mr. Bush cannot seem to find a
way out of his promises and posturing other than invading Iraq. Among our most
popular antiwar signs have been those that both support our troops and oppose
this preemptive war, so we want to make sure that millions of people see them
who have not yet attended a peace rally or march.
If we raise $50,000 by Friday, March 14 the billboards will start to go up next week, one as early as Tuesday. The billboards will remain up for at least a month — and if the bombing starts will keep the pressure on the Bush administration to stop the war and bring our troops home.
