Contract Talks Break Down Over Gay Protections
by 365Gay.com Newscenter Staff

December 21, Miami: Contract talks between Florida's state universities and faculty have broken down    over gay rights protections and pay.

The publicly funded universities are refusing to grant job protections for GLBT faculty or give pay raises.

The Florida  Board of Education, which runs the state's 11 public universities, and the United Faculty of Florida, which bargains for nearly 10,000 professors and other campus professionals, have declared an impasse.

That will mean the legislature will enact a contract.

Under Florida law the faculty cannot strike.  An impasse brings the state's lawmakers into the picture and allows them to impose a contract.

The Republican dominated state house is unlikely to enact protections for gay staff at the colleges.
