President Bush is trying to pack the courts with right-wing
extremist judges. In the next few months, hearings and votes will take place,
determining the law of the land and the shape of the government for decades to
come. President Bush has just made 30 nominations for federal judges, most of
whom are extremely hostile to civil rights, privacy and reproductive choice,
religious liberty, the environment and more. His nominees include Charles
Pickering and Priscilla Owen, who were rejected last year by the Senate
Judiciary Committee. We need your help to stop such radical ideologues from
rolling back our constitutional rights.

office.
Working Assets is joining with People
for the American Way and MoveOn.org to stop the most egregious and radical
nominees. We are seeking volunteers to come together to meet with their own
senators' offices in selected key states and hope that you can participate. With
the Senate controlled by right-wing Republicans, it is important that senators
who care about our issues know that their constituents will support them if they
speak out in opposition. A few senators have already indicated a willingness to
filibuster if necessary.
These meetings will take place on Thursday,
January 23rd, during the Senate recess. Groups of 20 or fewer constituents will
urge their senator to block the seating of the most extremist nominees like
Pickering, Owen, Sutton, Estrada and Cook. For additional information on these
nominees, please click here.
These meetings are
intended to be respectful discussions, not rallies or demonstrations. The tone
of the discussion should be constructive and not adversarial. If the senator is
not available, we will meet with senior staff. Gaining a staff ally is just as
important as meeting with the elected official.
We hope you can join us in this powerful campaign to
stop radical right-wing judges. The time is short and the stakes are
high.
If you are not able to attend, we hope you will still take action by e-mailing your
senators about your opposition to these and similar nominees. Click here to take
action.
Sincerely,
Michael Kieschnick
President
