After a year-long battle for recognition of a
gay-straight alliance at Boyd County High School in Kentucky, the sschool’s
teacher parent council recently voted for a third time and finally approved the
group, which already has 30 active members. While a victory, it came only after
the school was pressed with the fact it was violating the federal Equal Access

calling the October 16, 2002, murder of Gwen Araujo, a transgender 17-year-old
from Newark, California, a national tragedy. Take this opportunity to call on
California’s top schools’ official to pursue more aggressive implementation of
the state’s Student Safety and Violence Protection Act of 2000. More info
