What is Tampa Bay Coalition's Chronic Pain Patient Registry Campaign
It is a grassroots movement, with a mission to generate awareness to the plight of those who daily lives are consumed by excruciatingly high levels of pain. Chronic pain patients, must endure the devastating effects, chronic pain syndrome, has on their daily existance. If you or someone you know suffers from chonic pain. Then you understand, firsthand, the devastation and destruction that occurs to the lives of the chronic pain patient, their family and loved ones. Others, can only imagine, what it must be like to witness, someone who is near and dear to your heart, struggle to do the most simpliest tasks, we all take for granted, grimising from their excruciating pain. Only then can we all truly see, the importance of assuring that pain medication is not denied to a chronic pain patients, but, it is. Compounding chronic pain patients suffering, Physicians and Pain Management Specialists, reluctant to prescribe the proper dosage of pain medication required to alleviate the excruciatingly high levels of pain they are enduring. This is due to their physicians fear, that by doing so, face scrutiny by the Federal Drug Administration and are jeopardizing their license to practice medicine. And the reason for this horrific situation, the abuse of pain medications. by those who do not suffer from chronic pain. But, instead of taking these medications for there intended purpose of pain relief, they take them to achieve a feeling of euphoria, or for "getting high". This is what leads many people to abuse these medications. With our youth shown to be those who most abuse pain medications. In an all out effort to curb this abuse among our youth. With tougher restrictions, intense scrutiny, stiffer penalties and a rush to judgment mentality facing those who dispense these medications. Physicians and Pain Management Specialists, are understandably, much less willing to prescribed any type pain medication. All of this is accomplishing little to curb abuse or the amount of these medications that are available on the streets. While those in desperate need of pain medication to help alleviate their excruciatingly high levels of pain. They are given doses totally insufficient to adequately alleviate their high levels of chronic pain, with many being denied access to any pain medication what so ever. Instead, are forced to undergo additional surgical procedures and be guinea pigs for unproven experimental implanted devices. And with their Physicians and Pain Management Specialists, offering them little hope that these procedures will help to alleviate their high levels of chronic pain. Told, time after time, they have no other choice. But, their is a choice and it is the only effective treatment in alleviating their constant, relenting level of pain, the use of pain medication ,or narcotics. This choice. however. is one that their Physicians and Pain Management Specialists are unwilling to offer them. This is why a Chronic Pain Patient Registry is of the utmost importance to the lives of chronic pain patients, their families and loved ones.

What is and Who Will be Listed in Chronic Pain Patient Registry
It is a National Registry of people, whose daily lives are consumed and often destroyed by excruciatingly high levels of pain, due to either an injury or illness. Diagnosed, by Surgeons, Physicians and/or Pain Management Specialists, to suffer from a condition which is commonly known as chronic pain syndrome, or other such conditions, that, cause them to suffer constant and high level of pain. These people are referred to by most medical professionals, as Chronic Pain Patients, or "CPP's". The majority of CPP's have undergone, numerous extensive surgical procedures, medical procedures, physical, rehabilitative therapies and all other available treatment protocols. None of which succeeded in alleviating the constant and uncontrollable high level of pain they suffer. Their condition is therefore considered medically uncorrectable and permanent, or "chronic." Only those people, who have been medically evaluated by Physicians and Pain Management Specialists and diagnosed to suffer "chronic" high levels of pain on an almost daily basis. The cause of their chronic pain can be by an injury or illness.

Support a Chronic Pain Patient Registry Online Petition

To be sent to: U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee Chairman Senator Judd Gregg, Senate Members of Committee and Legislators Who Could Assist to Create a Chronic Pain Pain Registry.

A Chronic Pain Patient Registry would serve as a qualified listing of only those who have been thoroughly evaluated and who's ongoing chronic pain condition has been fully documented. The Food and Drug
Administration would recognize the pain medication and dosage being prescribed is that for a verified CCP. This would alleviate the need to investigate Physicians and Pain Management Specialists prescribing pain medication for possible abuse by non-chronic pain sufferers, as well as address the fear by medical professionals of losing their medical license or facing severe disciplinary action. CPP's would greatly benefit by receiving adequate pain medication required to help alleviate and control the high levels of pain which they endure on a daily basis.

All who have signed this petition implore you to vote for, or assist in the creation of a Chronic Pain Patient Registry. Please help Chronic Pain Patients, who often needlessly and incompassionately endure intolerable levels of pain every moment of every day, obtain the help so desperately needed to improve the quality of their lives. Chronic pain doesn't stop with just the sufferer; it infiltrates into the lives of families and loved ones who often endure, but often times cannot endure, the devastating effect a life of pain, hopelessness and despair has on relationships and families. Jobs and income are lost, families are destroyed...lives are ended
by suicide. A Chronic Pain Patient Registry will go far in greatly improving the quality of life for pain sufferers and those who surround them alike.

PLEASE SUPPORT THE CHRONIC PAIN PATIENT REGISTRY:

There is a surprisingly large, and often greatly misunderstood epidemic among Americans whose daily lives, due to injury or illness, are consumed and often destroyed by excruciatingly high levels of pain. Such people are now diagnosed, and referred to by medical professionals, as Chronic Pain Patients, or "CPP's".

The majority of all CPP's have undergone, and have not responded to, all available medical procedures and treatment protocols to alleviate the high level of pain they suffer. Their condition is therefore considered permanent, or "chronic", and the only effective treatment in alleviating their constant, relenting level of pain is the use of pain medication ,or narcotics. The most common pain medications prescribed by Physicians and Pain Management Specialists contain Opioids and have very effective analgesic or pain relieving properties - some examples of which are Darvon; Propoxyphene, Dilaudid; Hydromorphone; OxyContin; Oxycodone, Vicodin and Hydrocodone. All of these pain medications are strictly regulated, as they should be, by the Food and Drug Administration, (FDA).

However, as a result of attempting to curb the abuse by those who do not require such medications for their intended purpose of relieving severe or chronic pain, CPP's have been left to suffer needlessly and unfairly. Because many Physicians and Pain Management Specialists are fearful of being investigated or possibly losing their license, CPP's are either not being prescribed much needed medications at all, or are given doses totally insufficient to adequately alleviate their high levels of chronic pain.

There is a very important fact which is greatly misunderstood, but is supported by numerous studies [would help to refer to some here]. When pain medications are taken by someone who is suffering severe or high
levels of pain, their body breaks down the medication much differently than those who are not in pain. A feeling of euphoria, or "getting high", leads many people to abuse these medications, rather than the intended purpose of pain relief.  Much to the contrary, chronic pain sufferers do not experience any euphoria or "high". What they do experience is a valuable reduction, or manageable level to their chronic pain.
